Interview with Carolyn Miller,

(Conducted via E-mail response)

1. What inspired you to write "Underestimating Miss Cecilia"?

"I was inspired to write "Underestimating Miss Cecilia" because I've always wondered what it would have been like for the prodigal son after he returned home I don't think it would have been easy. Plus, I wanted to write a story that looked at what happens when a crush gets in the way of God's plans." "Along the way I discovered all sorts of interesting anecdotes and issues concerning things like prejudice towards gypsies, representation in parliament, and other fascinating tidbits about English society in the early 1800's."

2. What inspired your writing style?
"I try to write honestly, and deal with topics (or those I know) have gone through. My first Regency novel was my attempt to blend the writing style of two of my favorite authors- Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer with a God thread and a Australian sense of humor."

3. How much time  and research does it take to write?
" 4 weeks"
"I have a wealth of research books, but being based in Australia  I've often relied on the internet and various research channels for my information."

4. Why do you want to be  writer?

"Excellent question!" "I suppose I wanted to see more of the stories I like to read- realistic characters and issues, struggling with some of the same dilamess I face, with that sense of God awareness that we don't always see in "Christian" fiction." My characters pray, read the Bible, attend church and really wrestle with, and live out, their faith."

5. Do you think Miss Cecilia is a character that readers resonant with?

"Of course Especially if the reader is someone who has had a secret crush on someone." "Yes I think Cecy is someone readers can identify with."

6. Who are your favorite authors?

"Carrie Turansky, Roseanna White, Jane Austen, Kate Morton and Liane Moriarty. are just a few."
