Let me propose a question to the reader What is sin? Is it doing something wrong without understanding that it is wrong? Or is it doing something wrong knowingly? Or is sin going your own way and ignoring God all together? Sin is all of the above.  Sin is simply going against God and doing what you want.  But what kinds of sins are wrong? For example, is lying worse than murder? Or is stealing worse than borrowing without asking? In God's eyes it's all the same. Sin is sin.  There is not a yardstick that measures sin. What is not bad or bad. Why? Because God judges everyone the same. No special treatment. For example, A celebrity is no different than you and me in God's eyes. Every person  that sins must answer for it. Every person must be held accountable for their actions even sins. For example, when Adam and Eve sinned they were punished for it too.  God had to seek justice for the sin and as a result this affected human history today. This is the F...

Runaway Bride

Jody Hedlund has done it again. What a great read so far. The main character in the second book in the Bride ships series is Arbabella Lawrence, a young single woman headed on a ship to British Columbia to find a husband. The story begins with Arbaella arriving on the ship to Vancouver Island, British Colombia. She steps off the ship and is hesitant. She is unsure of all of this. Every male in Victorian society wants to marry her. She has her pick. It feels like to me and maybe the reader that she is being passed around to the highest bidder. The startling to me is  she is a young woman, who is trying to find out who she is and her future as well. Upon arrival she meets Pete Kelly the town baker who is also trying to stop a smallpox outbreak among the natives, this is a very timely layer woven into a already great read. Pete wonders how to solve the problem, and what he could have done differently to stop it. This really hit me hard with all that is going on with COVID-19, it mirr...

John's Letters: An Exegetical Guide for Preaching and Teaching for Kregel Academic

Professor Herbert Bateman, IV And Aaron C. Peer's Textbook Commentary of John's Letters (First John, Second John and Third John)  is written for a student reader who is in Seminary, a Pastor, or a Teacher in a Pastoral Program or a Theology Professor. It is not written for a Christian  who does not have at least  some Theological background, or the reader who reads the Bible more than once a day. Professor Bateman IV, and Pastor Peer do provide in the first section of 1 John, a basic  Exegetical Interpretation  Introduction to the letter. For example, It was written during a crisis. Professor Bateman says "The letter opens with John making an authoritative  message that Jesus is indeed a living human person." (Bateman p. 60). "The second half of 1 John is about the good news, which is God's love. Also, John is clear about Jesus teaching as a human Messiah,(Bateman, IV p. 61).  "John then returns to the theme of mutual love with first a calling to love ...

Into His Presence

According to the author of the book, Dr. Anderson, Intimacy with God is a close, connection to Him guided by trust and vulnerability. " (p. 27).  Intimacy also provides believers a everlasting covenant with God." (p. 30)  Also, Dr. Anderson says there four elements of Intimacy with God, first- Movement toward Intimacy- A nearness God wants with us, a closeness. A covenant. (p.30) second- Intimate Knowledge- Believers inner workings, such as desires, motivations, and behaviors. 3- Intimate Location- Where God meets with his people. 4 and finally, Intimate Contact- How God touches us, or connects with us, through prayer. (p.40) In conclusion, God wants to draw believers closer to Him through prayer and the gospel. My thoughts on this book are it was a very good read. It was not difficult to read nor was the pacing of the book was easy to understand. Dr. Anderson's principles meets Biblical standards. The audience for this book is a Bible College student or someone like ...
