Runaway Bride

Jody Hedlund has done it again. What a great read so far. The main character in the second book in the Bride ships series is Arbabella Lawrence, a young single woman headed on a ship to British Columbia to find a husband. The story begins with Arbaella arriving on the ship to Vancouver Island, British Colombia. She steps off the ship and is hesitant. She is unsure of all of this. Every male in Victorian society wants to marry her. She has her pick. It feels like to me and maybe the reader that she is being passed around to the highest bidder. The startling to me is  she is a young woman, who is trying to find out who she is and her future as well. Upon arrival she meets Pete Kelly the town baker who is also trying to stop a smallpox outbreak among the natives, this is a very timely layer woven into a already great read. Pete wonders how to solve the problem, and what he could have done differently to stop it. This really hit me hard with all that is going on with COVID-19, it mirr...
